If I only had only $800 to spend on a TV, I would have to choose the Sony X85J 43-Inch 4k Ultra HD TV for its stunning resolution, seamlessly smooth processing, and convenient features.

How I Picked
Setting A Budget

Regardless of what you are in the market for setting a budget is the place to start. Especially when it comes to TVs. That was my first consideration.

Installation

The next thing I took into account was the installation. Of course, I wanted the easiest possible DIY job available. Since I had the room for either a wall mount or stand installation, I was afforded a few more options than most.

Brand Recognition

You’d be surprised at how important it is to invest in a name. A brand! This can mean everything in the TV industry, as you’ll soon discover.

Features/External Ports

I wanted my TV to be more than just a reception box. I wanted it to seamlessly link up with my smart devices, offer unlimited streaming options, configure with my consoles, and look great while doing all this.

You don’t need to be an electronics guru to have heard of Sony.

They’ve been at the top of the electronics industry for years, creating everything from TVs to portable CD players back in the day.

If they’ve learned to do anything over the years, it is to deliver top-quality products.

Sony knows how to deliver without being overly pretentious, and that’s how you get this stunningly beautiful X85J.

The design isn’t overly complicated, making for an easy wall or stand installation.

The browsing platform and home screens are even more intuitive than ever.

You won’t have a problem linking other smart devices and consoles, as it is mere plug-and-play.

You can even connect Alexa and issue commands with your voice.

The 4K X-Reality Pro Technology doesn’t just upgrade all content to 4K; it brings it to life with real-world detail that is hard to match.

Regardless of the sequences, the 4K HDR Processor will ensure that the TV delivers crisp, powerful, smooth, and clear pictures full of rich colors and detailed contrast.

With 120Hz of native refresh rates, you’ll never notice the transition from sequence to sequence. Everything will be virtually instantaneous.

Live TV, hard-hitting sports, gaming, and action scenes will be smooth, clear, faster, and more realistic.

This is simply Sony doing what they do best!

Being the tech giant they are, Samsung also does an excellent job of delivering big without overdoing it.

They’ve learned just how to please their consumers over the years.

And that’s why they can deliver this strikingly clean back, no tangled connection TV with a bezel-less design.

The specific bezel-less design makes handling and placing the TV easier, offering an enhanced viewing experience.

Regardless of where you are viewing the TV, you’ll see more of the picture and less of the frame.

The high dynamic resolution technology (HDR) produces a remarkably detailed, clear picture. At the same time, the upgraded 4K single-chip processing unit ensures that everything is delivered with crystal-clear clarity and contrast at the lowest latency rates possible.

You won’t see blurs or lag even during the fastest of the fast sequences, with clear, crisp images along with more pixels than the standard FHD.

Samsung also keeps the audio clean and simple yet stellar while offering three primary settings.

You can choose from the default setting, the adaptive, or the amplified.

Don’t be afraid to experiment around, as there is plenty of audio, USB, and HDMI ports to connect many external devices.

Empower your entertainment experience with this strikingly well-built TV.

The light yet durable build makes the TV easy to move around and relocate if necessary.

However, once you hold the TV in your arms, you’ll have a feel for its frame.

It is sturdily built, and the OLED platform easily outperforms nearly any model you put next to it.

At least, this is true in terms of visual quality. This is all possible thanks to the hard work of the millions of self-lit pixels.

With this screen set up, you can always expect perfect black blacks and more precise coloring.

The stellar dual sound 40-watt power output only adds to the experience.

Thanks to the Dolby Digital Plus Technology, you’ll always clearly hear dialogue, details, and music.

It is the combination of the audio build along with the picture quality that makes this TV great.

The two together are a winning knockout combination.

Throwing in the rapid responsiveness of the TruMotion 120 and Quad-Core Processing Unit are just the cherries on top.

You’ll never have to worry about blurs or smudges during any action sequences.

The smart and intuitive webOS 6.0 offers access to millions of streaming configurations while maintaining a simplicity anyone can quickly master.

Despite the 9-million pixels working in unison with backlighting technologies, this is not the most impressive thing the 55AGV offers.

It’s the audio that changes the game. You not only get noise-canceling abilities, but you get multi-dimensional surround sound.

Vizio 55-Inch V-Series 4k UHD LED HDR Smart TV

Pull back the curtain and watch content the way the director intended it to be seen. Cinematic TV viewing taken to new levels.

Vizio is just as well-established and reputable as any manufacturer on this list. Probably even more so than some.

That’s how they bottled greatness and served it up.

The way Vizio gets these 8-million individual pixels to work together is stunning, but when you combine it with HDR10 and Dolby Vision, the game is changed completely.

That’s how they deliver the content the way the director intended.

You’ll get the most incredible brightness with the clearest contrast and colors, so vibrant scenes will just come to life.

The V-Series also supports HLG high dynamic range formats, which, as you can imagine, only take the greatness even further.

Along with the array of pixels, you also get a slew of backlit LEDs evenly distributed along the entirety of the 55 inches screen.

This offers an unrivaled picture quality and performance and the most uniform lighting available in today’s markets.

The IQ Active Processor ensures that this amazing picture quality is processed and delivered in the most efficient way possible.

This technology makes those fast action scenes clearer and faster, but it takes old boring content to upscale it to unbelievable heights.

There is a whole range of external ports and HDMI inputs that you can connect consoles and what not to.

Even a V-Gaming Engine works with the IQ Processor to deliver smooth and seamless transitions.

You’ll get 60 frames per second at as little as 10ms input lag.

The variable refresh rate with the auto game mode takes care of all your gaming needs.

You’ll be on the battlefield moving before the other players know what’s going on!

Samsung QN55Q60AA 55” Class Ultra High Definition QLED 4K Smart TV

Samsung is so confident in this TV they offer an additional year of coverage protection.

The 1-year extended protection by Epic Protect along with the 1-year manufacturer warranty was enough of a reason alone to splurge on this model.

It’s right there on the high end of $800; the warranty addition alone justifies this.

This model also offers 100% color volume with Quantum Dot Technology.

This technology pits billions of pixels together, working their hardest to deliver a stay-true color that is breathtakingly stunning.

Everything about this TV is top-of-the-line next-level convenient, right down to the very profile. The Q60AA features a new, specially introduced AirSlim design.

It is so elevated, slim, and expansive that it nearly defies logic. It’ll be hard to believe until you see it with your own eyes.

This only contributes to the ease of installation and mounting.

Everything on your screen will be upscaled to 4K UHD resolution while the darks get darker and the brightness reaches maximum level.

Thanks to the Dual LED design, and you’ll always have one system solely dedicated to the warms and one to the cools.

It’s simply unlike anything you’ve experienced before.

The mapping draws from a wider range of colors offering deep black, vibrant image scenery, and the greatest detail possible from the smallest data.

You’ll have to get your eyes checked because you’ll see things you’ve never seen before on the screen.

Pair that with the wide range of ports and smart features, and you can see the Samsung Q60AA is more than a justifiable purchase.

LG 55UP8000PUR 55-Inch Smart UHD TV

Everything from the design of the remote down to the footprint of the LG UP8000 spells convenience and simplicity.

Check Price on Amazon

LG does an excellent job of mixing convenience with today’s leading technologies.

Although simplistic right down to the remote, the UP8000 features some of today’s most advanced technologies.

I am starting with the ultra-thin design.

This monster of a package only weighs 31 pounds with dimensions of 48.6″ x 9.1″ x 30.4″ to offer a practical and very maneuverable device.

Mounting the TV with its ultra-slim profile will be easier and faster.

The model includes some of the industry’s best audio performance with its built-in speakers.

However, if you want to take that even further, LG makes it easy. With compatible Bluetooth speakers, you can connect up to two speakers, including the LG XBOOM.

Although an additional expense, the LG XBOOM will offer more of a surround sound experience. From there, it’s plug-and-play.

The Magic Remote and the webOS Platform will allow you to make quick work of browsing and navigation tasks.

With built-in intuitive smart controls, you can press the audio button and issue voice commands to have the TV do all kinds of unique things. It’s that easy!

It’s a good thing it is this easy and navigable because you could spend a lifetime going through all the available content and never reach an end.

The newly improved design of the home screen lets you customize and personalize to your heart’s content.

The smart AI will even bite out top content recommendations based on your previous selections.

With a similar Bluetooth platform, you can easily connect all your smart devices and use the LG UP800 like a command center.

Check your nanny cams, review security footage, dim your light, or browse content. The only limitation is your very own creativity.

Sony X750 65-Inch 4K Ultra HD LED TV

The X750H even makes full HD images look all that much better.

One of the neatest things about the Sony X750H is that it creates an amazingly great picture quality, but it adds ambiance to the room where it is installed.

The refined design with the narrow bezel allows you to always see more of the screen from varying angles while also meshing in with the surrounding environment.

Regardless of where you install this TV, it will be considered an addition to the interior. You’ll only be further amazed when you power on the TV.

MotionFlow XR240 technology and the all-powerful X1 Processor allow you to get clear images in the fastest action sequences.

All pictures come across with stunningly rich details and textures. With near-instantaneous response times, you always get smooth, seamless transitions.

Don’t worry about blurs or distorted pictures because they will be unheard of with the processing power of the X750H.

The High Dynamic Range technology only even makes the picture that much better. It takes all regular content and processes it the way it was intended.

Ultra-high resolution with HDR videos and lightning-fast processing take gaming to all-new heights in the dedicated game mode.

Android smart technologies offer a variety of smart configurations, while the multitude of external HDMI and USB ports offer near-endless entertainment possibilities.

What Has to Be Considered When Picking a TV Under $800?

Today, buying a TV can be as complicated as a process as you want to make it, or it can be as simplistic as flipping a switch.

The idea is to make the process as painless as possible while ensuring the device offers your most desirable qualities and features.

Unfortunately, industry terminology and access to today’s plethora of technologies can make the process somewhat difficult.

To get the most for your money, you will need to take the time to research properly. For a good TV, you’ll easily spend over $500, so that is your starting point.

It will be choosing the size, screen type, and resolution you want. The size and dimensions will, of course, depend on your allotted space.

As far as resolution goes, you’ll want to avoid anything less than 4K, full HD, or 1080p.

In terms of refresh rates, consider 60 Hz as good but 120 Hz as much better.

Higher refresh rates mean you’ll be able to load sequences and data without lag and blurs.

For me, OLED TVs look much better than most LCD screens.

That doesn’t mean LCD TVs aren’t great with their outstanding qualities.

This gives you a kind of guideline or rule of thumb to follow.

If you take this information and combine it with the features and qualities offered by the models above, you won’t have a problem narrowing down your selection.
